What is this referendum about? 

This referendum asks the AMS to take a position calling on UBC to sever formal academic ties with Israeli universities. It focuses on institutional partnerships that support research, student exchanges, and joint initiatives. 

What does “cutting ties” mean? 

It refers to ending official institutional relationships between UBC and Israeli academic institutions, including partnerships with universities such as Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Does this referendum directly change UBC policy?

AMS referendums are advisory. They express a position taken by student government, contributing to campus climate, public messaging, and institutional conversations. 

Why participate?

Student government decisions affect the direction and voice of the AMS. Participating ensures a wider range of student perspectives are reflected in the outcome. 

When and how do I vote?

Voting runs March 9–13. Students can vote online through the AMS voting portal. It takes less than a minute.
